Celebrate the winter season with live music, caroling, drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and a seasonal exhibit highlighting Delaware’s changing winter scenes.

Join us for a festive evening as we open the seasonal exhibit “Delaware’s Changing Winter Landscapes,” featuring drawings and paintings from the collections of the Delaware Historical Society, the New Castle community, and the Washington Society of Landscape Painters.

Enjoy live music from Delaware’s own Bruce Anthony and caroling by the Vocal Points, catering by Toscana, complimentary beer and wine, and the locally-sourced holiday decorations of the National Historic Landmark Read House & Gardens.

“Delaware’s Changing Winter Landscapes” showcases local winter scenes from the nineteenth century until today and asks us how we can best steward Delaware’s landscapes for future generations.

Artwork will be displayed throughout the Read House alongside dried floral arrangements sourced directly from the gardens and carefully crafted by staff for the holiday season.

The LIT for the Holidays opening party is inspired by the winter parties hosted by the House’s former owners, Lydia and Philip Laird, which were a festive New Castle tradition for decades.

The exhibit will be open December 15 – 29, 2024.
