Going Among English Sailors: American Tars Aboard HMS Belvidera, 1809-1814

Step aboard the HMS Belvidera and journey back to the 19th century in this nautical book talk. Lewes Historical Society Executive Director and maritime historian Andrew Lyter explores the experiences of twenty-two American sailors aboard the British warship Belvidera during the Napoleonic Wars and War of 1812, as they navigated shifting national identities and loyalties while shaping the maritime culture of the trans-Atlantic world.
