New Light on the History of American Ornithology

May 16 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm EDT

Discover the forgotten history of American Ornithology in a special presentation by Matthew R. Halley, PhD. In “Birds of the Philadelphia Museum: New Light on the History of American Ornithology,” Halley reveals his findings on the buried contributions of Charles Wilson Peale (1741-1827), and challenges our interpretation of the history and development of scientific ornithology in the United States.
Matthew R. Halley is an ornithologist, historian, and musician from Chester County, Pennsylvania. He is the Assistant Curator of Birds at the Delaware Museum of Nature and Science. He has prepared many papers about bird evolution and the history of American science, and works to renew the understanding of historical figures and the development of scientific ornithology in the United States.
The talk will take place in the Copeland Room at the Delaware History Museum. There will be time for questions at the end. Light refreshments will be provided.
Free event. Registration required: http://weblink.donorperfect.com/BirdsofPhiladelphia
