Celebrate Black History Month with the Delaware Historical Society!

Start with a visit to the Jane and Littleton Mitchell Center for African American Heritage which collects, preserves, researches, and presents the heritage of Delaware’s African Americans. All ages can explore this history through the exhibition Journey to Freedom located in the Delaware History Museum.

Join us throughout the month for for special Black History Month programming.

The Society's’ Research Library has resources related to African American history in Delaware, including the Szymanski photographs in our digital collections, and a variety of books, manuscripts, maps, newspapers and other photographs, as well as objects made, used, owned, or collected by Delawareans from the earliest days of settlement to the present (general research-collections link).  If you are interested in learning more about black history in Delaware, or doing family genealogy, our librarians can help!  Click here for information on the research library including special hours.
