Join us for this special documentary screening with filmmaker Michael Oates and historian Carlos Holmes.

Delaware State College 1900A Legacy of Opportunity is a documentary film to commemorate Delaware State University and its 125-year legacy.  It tells the institution’s story from 1891 to 2017, using contemporary footage, archival photos, and personal interviews with university alumni and executives. Following the film, there will be a discussion with the filmmaker, historian of the project, and many of the documentary participants.

The film was commissioned by Delaware Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, the federal agency which provides specialized funding for humanities programs nationwide.  Additional funding was provided by the Welfare Foundation, Inc.

Jane and Littleton Mitchell Center for African American Heritage was named in honor of two Delawareans who worked tirelessly for civil rights for the disenfranchised. The Mitchell Center collects, preserves and presents for public enrichment the history and heritage of Delaware's African Americans. Using historical objects, museum exhibitions, education programs and research, the Mitchell Center is Delaware's first central repository dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the state's African American history, heritage and culture.
