Description

Happy Birthday Annie Jump CannonJoin the birthday celebration for Annie Jump Cannon - an event for the whole family!

Annie Jump Cannon (1863—1941) was a Dover, DE native and a pioneer of modern astronomy in the early 20th century, at a time when women’s roles in scientific professions were extremely limited.  Educated at Wellesley and Harvard, she was “computer” for Harvard Observatory, counting the stars she studied.  Cannon classified more than 30,000 celestial objects, and is credited with developing the spectral classification system astronomers use today.

Annie Jump Cannon (as portrayed by Linda Chatfield) will make a special appearance and will be available to answer questions during the festivities.

More birthday details coming soon.
